Responsibilities:

  • Project Design: Provide leadership for the overall research design and modification of projects. Conduct relevant literature reviews and searches. Work closely with agency partners and funders in the design, implementation, and dissemination of applied research studies. Be familiar with quantitative and qualitative designs with an emphasis in at least one area. Submit projects through the proposal submission process when appropriate.
  • Project Implementation: Develop, implement, and/or supervise data collection protocols including interviews, focus groups, classroom observations, child assessments, environmental ratings, and/or surveys used in ECEI's research.

  • Dissemination: Prepare presentations and publications for funders/partners, refereed publications, regional and national conferences. Lead or participate in the dissemination of products to multiple audiences and platforms.
  • Personnel Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and support Project Directors. May also support Postdoctoral Fellows, Data Specialists, Research Associates, and Graduate Research Assistants. Provide ongoing guidance to ensure staff develop the skills and attributes needed to successfully manage research projects. Participate in the selection and training of new employees.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain IRB and other project-related records such as staffing, data sets, data documentation, sample tracking, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least two years of research experience. Prefer candidate with interest and experience conducting research in applied settings in partnership with agencies serving young children.
  • At least two years of successful project management experience including oversight of primary data collection.
  • At least two years of experience supervising research staff.
  • Extensive familiarity with early childhood research, including knowledge of contemporary research methods and needs in the field.
  • Demonstrated record of publishing and presenting research related to young children, birth through age 8, to both community partners and peer researchers.
  • Ability to translate and apply findings to early childhood classrooms, programs, systems, policy, etc.
  • Familiarity with a variety of early childhood settings required.
  • Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Proven skills in analyzing data with SPSS, HLM, Mplus, STATA, R, or other relevant software required.
  • Extensive experience with Excel and database software (Access).
  • Proficiency in office software (MS Office), Teams, Zoom, and other productivity and communication software.
  • Familiarity with child assessments and classroom observation tools; willingness and ability to pilot and learn new measures as they are developed.
